Day-by-Day White Desert Itinerary
Day 1: Cairo to Bahariya Oasis and Crystal Mountain
Your driver collects you at 6:30 AM from your Cairo or Giza hotel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle for the roughly four-hour drive to Bahariya Oasis, with a coffee stop along the way. After lunch in the oasis, you’ll switch into an off-road 4×4 jeep and head to El-Haiz Village, where natural freshwater springs bubble up from the ground, a perfect spot for a swim before continuing.
From there, the route climbs toward Crystal Mountain, a hill glittering with natural calcium carbonate crystal deposits, before pushing on into Agabat Valley, an ancient seabed lined with limestone ridges, dunes, and cave formations. As the sun goes down, you’ll reach your first desert camp, where a Bedouin-style dinner (stuffed chicken, lentil soup, fresh fruit) is waiting, along with tea, live music, and a campfire under the stars.
Day 2: Sand Dunes, Magic Spring, and the White Desert
After sunrise and breakfast, the second day opens with panoramic views over Agabat, followed by a jeep run across the Kharaween dunes for a round of sandboarding. The route then leads to the Magic Spring, a year-round freshwater spring, where you can stop for lunch and cool drinks.
In the afternoon, you’ll pass fossilized flower formations and unusual mangrove rock shapes before arriving at the main event: the White Desert National Park itself. This protected area, once an ancient seabed, is scattered with wind-carved chalk formations that locals say resemble everything from rabbits to camels. You’ll camp here for your second night, with a dinner of grilled chicken, rice, and vegetables under an exceptionally starry sky.
Day 3: Sunrise in the White Desert and Return to Cairo
Wake early for one last look at the White Desert’s formations at sunrise, arguably the best light of the entire trip, followed by breakfast and tea. From there, you’ll head back to Bahariya Oasis for lunch before your private transfer returns you to Cairo.

Best Time to Visit the White Desert
