Most Egypt tours take you to the famous highlights: the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, the Nile, Luxor, Aswan, and the Red Sea. These places are incredible, but there is another side of Egypt that many travelers never see.
That side is the desert.
If you want to experience Egypt beyond the classic tourist route, an Egypt tour with Siwa Oasis is one of the best travel experiences you can plan. It combines ancient history, desert landscapes, natural springs, salt lakes, safari adventure, and peaceful oasis life in one unforgettable journey.

Read moreSiwa Oasis is one of Egypt’s most unique destinations. It is remote, quiet, beautiful, and completely different from Cairo or the Nile Valley. When you combine Siwa with Cairo, the Pyramids, the White Desert, and Fayoum, you get a powerful itinerary that shows you Egypt’s history, nature, culture, and desert magic.
This guide will help you plan the best Egypt tour including Siwa Oasis, whether you want a short desert extension from Cairo or a longer private adventure through Egypt’s Western Desert.
If you want to browse ready-made options first, you can explore our Egypt desert tours and choose the itinerary that fits your travel dates, budget, and travel style.
Why Add Siwa Oasis to Your Egypt Itinerary?
Siwa Oasis adds something very special to an Egypt itinerary. It gives travelers a peaceful, natural, and deeply atmospheric experience after the intensity of Cairo or the classic historical routes.
Cairo is powerful and busy. The Pyramids are iconic. Luxor and Aswan are full of ancient temples. But Siwa gives you silence, desert views, salt lakes, natural springs, palm groves, and a slow rhythm of life.
That contrast is what makes Siwa so valuable.
When you add Siwa to your Egypt tour, you are not just adding another sightseeing stop. You are adding a completely different travel experience.
Siwa is perfect if you want to:
- Escape the crowds.
- Float in turquoise salt lakes.
- Explore ancient desert ruins.
- Visit Cleopatra Spring.
- Walk through Shali Fortress.
- Enjoy a 4×4 safari in the Great Sand Sea.
- Watch peaceful desert sunsets.
- Experience local oasis culture.
- Take unique travel photos.
- See a hidden side of Egypt.
If you are still deciding whether the journey is worth it, read our full guide: Is Siwa Oasis Worth Visiting?. It explains why Siwa is one of the most rewarding desert destinations in Egypt.

Why Combine Cairo, the Pyramids, the White Desert and Siwa Oasis?
A strong Egypt itinerary should not feel repetitive. It should give travelers variety.
That is why combining Cairo, the Pyramids, the White Desert, Fayoum, and Siwa Oasis works so well.
Each destination gives you something different:
Cairo and the Pyramids
Cairo gives you the classic Egypt experience. You see the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, museums, Islamic Cairo, local markets, and the energy of the capital.
The White Desert
The White Desert gives you one of the most surreal landscapes in Egypt. Its chalk formations, open desert views, and camping experience make it completely different from any city or temple visit.
Fayoum
Fayoum adds lakes, waterfalls, desert scenery, pottery villages, and a softer natural landscape between Cairo and the Western Desert.
Siwa Oasis
Siwa adds salt lakes, springs, old ruins, safari, local culture, palm groves, and peaceful oasis life.
Together, these destinations create a powerful route: ancient history, surreal desert, natural lakes, and remote oasis adventure.

Best Egypt Tour with Siwa Oasis: Recommended 6-Day Itinerary
A 6-day itinerary is one of the best options if you want to combine Cairo, the White Desert, Fayoum, and Siwa Oasis in one private tour.
It is active, adventurous, and perfect for travelers who want to see more than the standard Egypt route.
Day 1: Cairo Arrival, Pyramids of Giza & Egyptian Highlights
Your journey begins in Cairo, Egypt’s capital and the best starting point for most desert tours.
Depending on your arrival time, your first day can include a visit to the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. This is the perfect way to begin your Egypt adventure because the Pyramids are the most iconic landmark in the country.
A Cairo sightseeing day may include:
- Pyramids of Giza.
- The Great Sphinx.
- Egyptian Museum or Grand Egyptian Museum, depending on availability.
- Khan El Khalili Bazaar.
- Islamic Cairo.
- Local Egyptian lunch.
After a full day in Cairo, you stay overnight in the city and prepare for your desert journey.
Day 1 Highlights:
- Cairo sightseeing.
- Pyramids of Giza.
- Sphinx.
- Museum visit.
- Local market experience.
- Overnight in Cairo.

Day 2: Cairo to Bahariya Oasis & White Desert Camping
On Day 2, you leave Cairo and begin your Western Desert adventure.
Your destination is Bahariya Oasis, the gateway to the White Desert. The road takes you away from the city and into Egypt’s open desert landscapes.
After arriving in Bahariya, you can visit local desert sites before continuing toward the White Desert.
Depending on the itinerary, the day may include:
- Bahariya Oasis.
- Black Desert.
- Crystal Mountain.
- Agabat Valley.
- White Desert formations.
- Desert sunset.
- Overnight camping in the desert.
The White Desert is one of Egypt’s most magical natural landscapes. The rock formations look like sculptures shaped by wind and time. At night, the desert becomes quiet and full of stars, making the camping experience unforgettable.
If your main interest is desert adventure, you can browse all available options on our Our Tours page and choose a route that includes both the White Desert and Siwa.
Day 2 Highlights:
- Drive from Cairo to Bahariya.
- Black Desert.
- Crystal Mountain.
- Agabat Valley.
- White Desert.
- Desert camping.
- Overnight under the stars.
Day 3: White Desert Sunrise, Fayoum & Natural Landscapes
Wake up early in the White Desert and enjoy the sunrise over the surreal white rock formations. This is one of the most peaceful moments of the trip and a great opportunity for photography.
After breakfast in the desert, continue your journey toward Fayoum or return through the desert route depending on the final itinerary.
Fayoum adds a different natural side to the trip. It is known for lakes, desert scenery, waterfalls, pottery, and relaxed countryside views.
Possible Fayoum highlights include:
- Wadi El Rayan.
- Magic Lake.
- Tunis Village.
- Pottery workshops.
- Desert viewpoints.
- Local lunch.
Fayoum is a beautiful bridge between the high-energy Cairo experience and the remote feeling of Siwa. It adds softness and variety to the itinerary.
Day 3 Highlights:
- Sunrise in the White Desert.
- Breakfast in the desert.
- Drive toward Fayoum.
- Wadi El Rayan.
- Magic Lake.
- Tunis Village.
- Overnight depending on route plan.
Day 4: Fayoum to Siwa Oasis
Day 4 is when your journey moves deeper into Egypt’s Western Desert toward Siwa Oasis.
This is a long travel day, but it is also one of the most exciting parts of the itinerary because you are heading toward one of Egypt’s most remote and peaceful destinations.
After arriving in Siwa, you check in at your accommodation and rest. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy a short walk through the town or visit Shali Fortress for sunset.
Shali Fortress is one of the most iconic landmarks in Siwa. Its old mud-salt ruins rise above the town and offer beautiful views over the oasis.
If you want to understand Siwa before arriving, read our guide to Siwa Oasis Tours in Egypt. It gives a deeper overview of the oasis, its atmosphere, and why travelers love it.
Day 4 Highlights:
- Drive toward Siwa Oasis.
- Arrival and check-in.
- Optional Shali Fortress visit.
- Sunset view.
- Overnight in Siwa.

Day 5: Siwa Salt Lakes, Cleopatra Spring, Oracle Temple & Great Sand Sea Safari
Day 5 is the main Siwa experience day and one of the strongest highlights of the full Egypt itinerary.
Start with the famous Siwa Salt Lakes. These bright blue lakes are among the most photogenic places in Egypt. Their high salt concentration makes floating easy, and the contrast between blue water, white salt, palm trees, and desert views creates an unforgettable scene.
After the salt lakes, visit Cleopatra Spring, one of Siwa’s most famous natural springs. It is a relaxing stop where travelers can enjoy the atmosphere, take photos, and experience the calm rhythm of the oasis.
Then continue to the Oracle Temple, one of Siwa’s most important ancient sites. This adds historical depth to the day and connects Siwa to Egypt’s ancient past.
Depending on the itinerary, you may also visit the Mountain of the Dead, local markets, or palm groves.
In the afternoon, enjoy a 4×4 safari in the Great Sand Sea. This is the adventure part of the Siwa experience.
Your safari may include:
- Dune driving.
- Sandboarding.
- Desert photo stops.
- Hot spring visit.
- Sunset in the dunes.
- Tea in the desert.
For more details about the safari experience, read our Siwa Desert Safari Guide.
Day 5 Highlights:
- Siwa Salt Lakes.
- Cleopatra Spring.
- Oracle Temple.
- Mountain of the Dead if included.
- Great Sand Sea safari.
- Desert sunset.
- Overnight in Siwa.
Day 6: Siwa Local Morning & Return to Cairo
On the final day, enjoy a peaceful morning in Siwa before starting the return journey to Cairo.
Depending on timing, you may visit the local market, buy dates and olive oil, take final photos, or enjoy breakfast with oasis views.
The return journey is long, so this day is mainly focused on travel. A private vehicle makes the drive much more comfortable and flexible.
If you want a shorter tour focused only on Siwa, you can book our 3 Days / 2 Nights Siwa Oasis Tour from Cairo, which includes the main Siwa highlights in a practical private itinerary.
Day 6 Highlights:
- Breakfast in Siwa.
- Local market.
- Final photos.
- Return to Cairo.
- Hotel drop-off.

Is Siwa Oasis Good for First-Time Visitors to Egypt?
Yes, Siwa Oasis can be excellent for first-time visitors, especially if you want to see a side of Egypt that many tourists miss.
However, it is best added to a well-planned itinerary because Siwa is far from Cairo. If you only have 4 or 5 days total in Egypt, it may be difficult to include Siwa comfortably. But if you have 6 days or more, Siwa can become one of the most memorable parts of your trip.
Siwa is good for first-time visitors who want:
- Nature.
- Desert safari.
- Local culture.
- Ancient sites.
- Relaxation.
- Unique photos.
- A peaceful break from busy cities.
It is especially powerful when combined with Cairo and the Pyramids because you get both the famous Egypt and the hidden Egypt in one trip.

- Visitors who want rare experiences.
- People who dislike standard mass tourism.
The White Desert gives you dramatic scenery. Siwa gives you calm beauty. Cairo gives you history. Together, they create one of the most unique private Egypt tours you can book.

- Book with a local desert operator.
- Confirm the itinerary before departure.
- Ask what is included.

⭐ TripAdvisor Reviews – Photography Experience
Posted on Tripadvisor Guillaume RVerified Unforgettable Experience Very special and unforgettable experience. We’re so glad we booked this tour and had the chance to see incredible places that most tourists never get to visit. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and shared their enthusiasm with us throughout the journey, making every stop more meaningful. It’s hard to choose what we enjoyed most, the breathtaking White Desert or the peaceful ancient tombs and temples. We traveled with children, who especially loved the activities in the desert and exploring the maze-like streets of Al Qasr. Camping in the desert was an unforgettable highlight: we saw desert foxes and woke up to a stunning sunrise. The remaining nights were spent in charming and comfortable hotels, some of which felt wonderfully luxurious.Posted on Tripadvisor Sam CVerified Super!! Landschaft einzigartig, Fantastico für uns ein Must do in egypt wenn man die Wüste mag.Posted on Tripadvisor Sacha GVerified Best experience ever! The 3D/2N white desert tour was my favorite experience while visiting Egypt. The sights are outstanding, truly a natural wonder. The white desert tour team was the best. As a photographer, I wanted to see specific places and needed to have my own rythm. They created a specific itinerary for us and made everything possible. It was far beyong expectations. Our guides were incredibly nice and accomodating, we had the best time. I will hold to the memories of riding a jeep in the sand, drinking tea around a fire with live music at night, and waking up in the white desert next to those gorgeous rock formations for the rest of my life. Thank you so much !Posted on Tripadvisor fedesiscaVerified La meraviglia del deserto Esperienza assolutamente straordinaria. Il White desert è un luogo surreale con paesaggi davvero insoliti. Un ringraziamento particolare a Mostafa e midu, i nostri bravissimi e simpaticissimi accompagnatori che ci hanno guidato in questa avventura. Everything was amazingPosted on Tripadvisor liseVerified White Desert Egypt Tours are the best We left from Giza in the morning, slept in the desert and then on to Luxor - all arranged by White Desert Egypt Tours. From beginning to end this was an extraordinary experience. Every person involved with making this magic happen for us was incredible. It felt like we were travelling with family. The tented camp had everything we needed even set up toilets, beds in the tents, deliscious supper and breakfast. We arranged the tour with Ahmed, the owner. His brother Mustafa drove us through the desert and entertained us with his great choice of music in the car as well as playing his flute for us by the camp fire. Our driver from Giza to Saqqara was also arranged by White Desert Egypt Tours - his name was Ahmed - he also drove us to Luxor - such a lovely kind and clam person. We can highly recommend this company.Posted on Tripadvisor Tour06063568793Verified Great I would highly recommend this tour with this company. They were so kind and helpful and I wish I could have stayed there longer. Love love loved it!Posted on Tripadvisor Quentin VVerified Great experience and good service! We had an amazing experience in the desert with the 2 beduin guides. They showed us every corner of the desert and explained us every detail (in the best English they could). The homemade food was really good. The comfort of the tent and all the care itself was very good as well. We even enjoy funny moments and cultural experiences playing music by the fire. Totally recommended.
